WHY WOMEN’S VOICE?

WHY WOMEN’S VOICE?

I remember when I was about 10 years old going to the space centre together with my classmates. Our tour guide told us of the first man to land in space, the first man to go to the moon and the first man to discover Uranus! As a young girl, all these stories were so exciting to me- I dreamt of one day being an astronaut, one day being an aerospace engineer. Unbeknown to me at the time, women were absent in those stories.

Looking back today, I can see why my male classmates left the space centre feeling more confident than me, that they TOO COULD achieve these ambitions. Why weren’t the stories of women highlighted in these experiences?

Unfortunately, as I grew older the absence of women in key industries and leadership positions became more apparent and I began to feel and notice that absence more and more. When I look at society, I do not see a fair representation of women in most sectors. This is a problem because we rely on leaders, examples and stories that teach us to believe in our potential. It is important that women are made visible so that we are able to see what we can accomplish.

That is what I want to change with Women’s Voice. One of my favourite quotes is ‘You can’t be what you can’t see’ by Marian Wright Edelman and I hope through this platform I will be able to show women that ‘You can do it too’.

My dream is for when young women look at society she will believe that she can be anything she wants to be; not because we have told her so, but because  she will be able to see women who are doctors, astronauts, scientists, teachers, Lawyers, Engineers and many more! She will be able to see women leading key industries, being recognised and celebrated as role models.

I also want to show women, that it is okay to not be okay, that the situation you are in is not permanent, that your struggles are temporary and that we have the power to overcome obstacles that are standing in our way. I want to do this by showing you women who have been through similar issues and have survived.

If she can get out of it, ‘You can too’. If she can do it, ‘You can too’.

Welcome to Women’s Voice, I hope that you will be inspired, feel celebrated, empowered and educated.

Inspire

Women’s Voice aims to inspire women to believe that they can achieve anything. We do this by platforming women who are owning their fields. We strongly believe that it is hard to be what you can’t see, so we are here to support and show you that it is possible! By interviewing women from all walks of life, different industries and who have faced common struggles, we are showing you the challenges you face can be overcome.
We want to celebrate women who have overcome barriers and are doing extremely well within their fields. As such, Women’s Voice will be presenting awards annually to mark the significant achievements of our fellow women. We encourage you to nominate these inspiring women and bring them out into the spotlight to be celebrated.

Celebrate

Empower

Women should always feel empowered. This starts by showing one another that anything is possible and if she can do it you can do it too! At Women’s Voice, we want to remind women of the power that they have within themselves to accomplish absolutely anything they put their mind to! Alongside this, we want to help you get the tools to achieve your goals.
In our interviews, we will be discussing important issues that affect women all over the world. We provide a platform through which industry experts can share knowledge and best practice. We also aim to provide women with resources to learn more about different issues.
